Fady I. Sharara, M.D, FACOG, FCI's Chairman and CEO is an American Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist / Infertility specialist (since 1996), and an American Board Certified Obsterician / Gynecologist (since 1994).
Dr. Sharara received his B.S in Chemistry in 1982, and his M.D in 1986 from the American University of Beirut (AUB). He was on the Dean's honor list during his premedical and medical studies. He then completed his residency in OB/GYN at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, USA in 1991, followed by a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from 1991 to 1994 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD (which had only one spot per year at the time). 
He then moved to Chicago in July 1994 where he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois and Michael Reese Fertility Center between 1994 and 1996. He then returned East to the University of Maryland in July 1996 where he was Assistant Professor and head of the IVF program from 1996 to  May 2000. He was promoted to Associate Professor before his departure from the University of Maryland. He became an Associate Clinical Professor at George Washington University from 2003-2009. Dr Sharara is currently Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Dr Sharara then became the founder and Medical Director for the Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine (VCRM), with offices in Reston, VA.

Dr Sharara has published more than 80 scientific papers and book chapters dealing with Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technologies, and is a sought after speaker in his area of expertise, namely IVF and assisted reproduction. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, and is on the speaker's bureau for multiple companies. Dr Sharara is also a reviewer for Fertility and Sterility and Human Reproduction, the two leading scientific journals in the area of Reproduction, along with Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Human Fertility, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of Obsterics and Gynecology Research, and the Middle East Fertility Society Journal. Dr Sharara has been named one of America's Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care every year from 2002 to 2009, Who's Who in America in 2004-09, America's Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Dr Sharara was also received the 2004 International Scientist of the Year award, 2004 International Health Professional of the Year award, and has been named as one of the Washington area top doctors in Infertility by the Washingtonian magazine in 2005-present.

Dr Sharara has been a member of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) Practice Committe since 2007. The Practice Committe has only 10 members, and is responsible for drafting new guidelines and articles pertaining to the latest Assisted Reproductive Technologies and then submitting them for approval by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Practice Committee.
